I am an independent art historian, writer and artist.

I research into and write about art and artists, with a particular interest in the work of Rex Whistler (1905-1944) and 20th- century murals. I am a painter of landscapes, architecture and people.

The connections between my interests and occupations mean that they all flow into each other. As an art historian, describing someone else’s paintings and creative life is easier with the insights gained from my own experience as an artist. Correspondingly my own artistic practice is enriched by the study and analysis of these artists’ works. As a writer the act of moving words around a page can be very close to the movements of a brush and, in turn, painting is its own particular form of descriptive language.
